How to identify drunks

Two friends were meeting after a very long period. It was so long that they both decided for a celebration. As the old times, they got into a bar.

They were having a great time there just like the good old days. And they were getting back their old mood. The empty glasses were getting piled up in front of their table. It was such a wonderful time! And they were filling their throats round after round as if they were thirsty for a century!
After an hour or two have passed, one of them told the other with a requesting tone, 'Pal, I think you've had enough. 'Would you please stop drinking’? The other paid no heed. Some more times passed (as well as some more glasses), the man looked up and suddenly rose with a scream, ‘Pal! YOU MUST STOP! You’re GETTING BLURRED! SOME MORE DRINKS AND YOU WILL VANISH!’
Well I got the story somewhere. But that's not the matter. The matter is- the two people in the picture, I am very much sure, are drunk as dead.

জেনারেশন এ পরিবর্তন আসে অবশ্যম্ভাবী হয়ে। এর কোন ব্যতিক্রম নাই। কেউ চাক বা না চাক এই প্রক্রিয়া চলবেই। ভাল লাগুক বা মন্দ লাগুক কেউ সময় কে থামাতে পারবে না। এর মধ্যে বিতর্ক এসে যায় ভাল পরিবর্তন আর মূল্যবোধের নিম্নগামীতা নিয়ে। কিন্তু আমি সেসব নিয়েও কথা বলছি না। আমি বলছি কারণ যুগে যুগে সব মানুষের অপ্ত বাক্য ‘ দুনিয়াটা রসাতলে গেল ’। আমার দাদা আমার দাদী কে ভীষণ ভালোবাসতেন এবং তার মৃত্যুশোকে সন্ন্যাসী হন। তিনি তখন অবশ্য ছিলেন যুব-সমাজ রসাতলে যাবার অন্যতম উদাহরণ। এখন অবিশ্বাস্য লাগতেই পারে কিন্তু তখন কেউ তাকে ছেড়ে কথা বলেনি। আমার বাবা রবীন্দ্র সঙ্গীত এর ভীষণ ভক্ত ছিল কিন্তু তার সময় এটা ছিল সঙ্গীত এর নামে অশ্লীলতা। আব্বুকেও সিনেমা হলে সিনেমা দেখাতে যাবার জন্য অসংখ্যবার শুনতে হয়েছে যুব-সমাজ রসাতলে গেল। এসব সিনেমা কে এখন আমরা আর্ট পিস এর সম্মান দেই। এখন সবার গা-জ্বালা করা একটা সর্বনাম হল ডিজুস জেনারেশন বা আধুনিক ইয়ো পোলাপান। সবার মত অনুযায়ী তাদের কোন শেকড়ই নাই এবং এরা অন্ধভাবে পশ্চিমা সভ্যতা অনুকরণ ও অনুসরণ করে। কিন্তু সময় যখন সব বদলায় তখন সময় এর সাথে যুদ্ধ করা; আমি ঠিক কিন্...

দুঃসময় বা দুঃস্বপ্নের সময়...

কেন যেন মনে হচ্ছে দুঃস্বপ্ন দেখছি, আর প্রচন্ড অসহায় হয়ে চাচ্ছি, কেউ আমার ঘুমটা এক ঝটকায় ভেঙ্গে দিক। দুঃস্বপ্নের শুরু মায়ের অসুস্থতা দিয়ে। এখান ওখান করে শেষ পর্যন্ত কুর্মিটোলা হাসপাতালে পৌছালাম, ইমারজেন্সি-তে ওদের প্রশ্নের জবাব দিতে দিতেই মেইল এল, আম্মার COVID-19 পজিটিভ। সব ভয় ভুলে, চলে গেলাম রোগি ভরা ওয়ার্ডে, বেডে শুইয়ে দিলাম, ডায়ালাইসিস করে দিলাম। চলে আসার সময়, একবার মনে হল, এর পর আর দেখা হবে না। দু'দিন পর, ICU তে যায়গা পাওয়ায়, একটু নিশ্চিন্তে অফিসের একটা মিটিং এ জয়েন করলাম। মাঝামাঝি সময় ফোন এল, আম্মু সব চিকিৎসার বাইরে চলে গেছে, আম্মুকে নিয়ে আসতে হবে। সেদিন সেপ্টেম্বরের ৩০, ২০২০। ঈদের আর দুদিন বাকি। পরদিন বানানি কবরস্থানে মাটি চাপা দিলাম। সেই সময় প্রচন্ড বৃষ্টি, আগের দিন থেকেই স্বাভাবিকভাবেই চলছিলাম, কিন্তু কেন যেন এখন আর পারলাম না, সকল আত্মসংযমের বাধ ভেঙ্গে চুরে, বুকের ভেতরটা দুমড়েমুচড়ে কান্না এল।  বৃষ্টির পানি, মুখের মাস্ক, পিপিই সব মিলে সেই চোখের পানি লুকিয়েই ছিল হয়তো, খেয়াল করা হয়নি। বা সেই অবস্থায় ও ছিলাম না।  এর পর ১৪ দিনের কোয়ারেন্টিন, বাসার সবার। এর মাঝেই বাবার পাতলা পায়খা...

Let the divine hand solve your problems...

We had been under British colonial rulings for 200 years. Then we had been under Pakistani dictatorship. We had fought for establishing our mother language, Bangla as the official language of our country while under Pakistani rulings. The effect of all these is, we have a 12 year schooling on which we have English as our subject. After that, for higher education, most of the universities use English medium. And the ability to speak in English is taken as a measure of how smart a person is. Though I can't find how not speaking own language can be taken as smartness. But that's another story. Despite all these, we don't use English anywhere in our everyday activities. And I think except some rootless junks of the society, deep down ourselves, each of us have an unwillingness to learn the language.
